Annual Sports Day Report

2007-2008

Our women team lead by G. Vedha bhavani of IV BE Civil bagged silver in the Half Marathon. S. Dhivya of II BE ECE bagged the silver in 200 mts and Heptathlon in the Anna University Zonal Meet. Our Athletic team also participated in the kovai mini marathon and TIES’08 competition.

Our men team lead by S.Sathees Kumar of IV BE ECE participated in the Anna University and TIES’08 competitions. F. Ismail of II BTech IT bagged the silver in Discuss Throw, Hammer throw and Shot put in the Anna University Zonal Meet and won gold medal in Shot put in the TIES’08 Meet. He also won gold medal in the Discuss and Shot put throw events at the open meet held at Salem in which M.Allvin of IV BTech IT won Silver medal in 1500Mts.

Basket ball:

The women team lead by N.Revathy of III BE CSE won the gold at the Anna University Zonal tournament. They also participated in TIES’08 tournament.

The men team lead by P.Ramalingam of V BE SW EEE won the gold at the Anna University Zonal tournament. They also participated in the Anna University Inter-Zone and CICAA tournaments.

Ball Badminton:

Our College women team lead bBadminton team in the Inter-District State level Ball Badminton championship held at Elambillai. They y Mahalakshmi of III Btech Bio-tech won the gold in the Anna University Zonal tournament and finished runners-up in the CICAA tournament. G.Anitha of III BE ECE was selected to represent Coimbatore District Ball also participated in TIES’08, Himalaya Fives and Open tournament organized by Coimbatore District Ball Badminton Association.

Our College men team lead by K.Chandru of IV BE ECE finished runners-up in the Anna University Zonal tournament. E.Balaji of II BE Bio-Medical was selected to represent Coimbatore zone combined team in the Anna University Inter-Zonal tournament held at AC Tech, Karaikudi. Our team reached Quarter finals in the TIES ‘08 tournament. The team also participated in the CICAA, Himalayas Fives and Open tournament organized by Coimbatore district Ball Badminton association.

Badminton:

The women team lead by S.Dhivya of IV Btech Bio-tech finished runners-up in the Anna University Zonal Tournament. The team also reached the semi finals of the CICAA tournament and quarter finals in TIES’08 tournament. S.Dhivya of IV Btech Bio-tech and L.Pavithra of III BE ECE was selected to represent zonal combined team in Anna University Inter-Zonal tournament and the team won the gold medal.

The men team lead by R.Rakesh of V BE SW Production reached the semifinals of the in CICAA tournament, Quarter-finals in Anna University Zonals and participated in TIES’08 tournament. S.Mohan of III BE Metallurgy was selected to represent the combined team in Anna University Inter-Zonal tournaments held at Jeyam Engineering College, Krishnagiri.

Boxing:

R.Collin Kamesh Kumar of IV BE ECE won the gold medal in the welter weight category in the Anna University one Zone competition and also selected to represent Anna University Boxing team in the All India Inter University Competition. He was also selected to represent Tamilnadu State in the senior category in the Senior Nationals to be held in Chennai shortly.

Cricket:

Our College cricket team lead by M.S.Arun kumar of IV BE SW EEE won the gold medal for the third consecutive year in the Anna University Zonal tournament and bagged bronze at the Inter-Zonal. G.Manikandan of III BE ECE was selected to represent Anna University cricket team in the South Zone Inter University tournament. Our team bagged third place in the Inter-engineering tournament for TCE Trophy. Our college cricket club being the oldest in Coimbatore Celebrates its Golden Jubilee this year. Our club played Coimbatore District Cricket Association (CDCA) “B” Division league tournament this year.

Chess:

Our women team lead by M.Kasturi of IV BE ECE finished runners-up in the CICAA tournament and won the third place in TIES’08 tournament.

Our men team lead by S.R.Santhosh of III BE CSE finished third place in the CICAA tournament and was ranked fifth in the TIES’08 tournament.

Our college men and women combined team finished runners-up in the Anna University Zonal tournament

Football:

Our college women team lead by S.Dhivya of II BE ECE bagged the bronze in the Anna University Inter Zonal tournament. S.Dhivya of II BE ECE, Anton Christy of II BE CSE and Winna Steffi of II BE EEE were selected to represent Anna University Football team in the South Zone Inter University Championship. They also participated in the CICAA tournament. This year it is also planned to organize a fives foot ball tournament for our college girls.

Our college men team lead by M.Prasad of IV BE Automobile bagged the gold in the Anna University Zonals. In the Inter Zonal tournament our team reached semifinals. Also our college men team representing PSG SPORTS CLUB presently is playing the ‘A’ Division League Tournament being organsied by Coimbatore District Foot ball Association. Our Foot ball team is also presently conducting the Annual Fives Foot ball Tournament for our college boys.

Handball:

Our college team lead by K.Ramesh Kannan of IV BE Metallurgy bagged the third place in both Anna University Inter Zonal Handball tournament and TamilNadu Inter Engineering Tournament organised by Tamilnadu Handball Association. K.Ramesh Kannan our captain and K.Gowdhaman of III BE Civil Engg were selected to represent Anna University in the Inter University Championship.

Hockey:

In a eventful year our Hockey team performed consistently league by working very hard right from the beginning of this academic year. Our College hockey team lead by M.Nagarajan of V BE SW Mechanical won the silver medal in the Anna University Zonal tournament. They won the Inter Collegiate tournament organized by Park College of Engineering and Technlogy. They finished Runners-up in the 15th Thiru karumuthu Thiagarajan Chettiar Memorial Inter-Engineering Hockey Tournament organized by Thiyagaraja College of Engineering, Madurai. They also bagged third place in the SDAT Inter block Tournament. The team also reached the semi finals in CICAA Tournament. Our team was ranked fourth in TIES’08 tournament. Our Hockey club successfully organised “TECH HOCKEY LEAGUE” in a grand manner and won the championship.

KHO-KHO

Our College team lead by R.Kannan of III BE Automobile Engg played CICAA tournament.

Sepak Takraw:

Our college team lead by D.Sabarinath of IV BE of Engineering continues the good work of popularizing this game in our campus. The team organized Intra college 3’S Takraw tournament and R.Srikkanth of III BE ECE & N.Sivabalan of III BE CSE were selected to represent Tamil Nadu state in the XVIII Senior National Sepak Takraw Championship held at Chennai.

Tennis:

Our women team lead by R.Sadhwi of II BE Applied Science won the Anna University Zonal tournament.

Our men team lead by A.P.Rajan Chakravarthy of IV BE ECE won the CICAA tournament and also participated in TIES’08 tournament.

Table Tennis:

Our women team lead by S.Vaishnavee of III BSc FT participated in the Anna University Zonal and CICAA tournaments.

Our men team led by S.Haareesh of IV BE SW EEE finished runners-up in the CICAA tournament. The team reached the quarter finals in the open district tournament organized by R.S.Puram club. Our team also participated in TIES’08 tournament.

Throw ball:

Our College team lead by D.Anandhi Bala of IV BE ECE came winners in the 1st TCE trophy organised by Tamil Nadu College of Engineering.

Volleyball:

Our college women team lead by P.Rupa of III Bsc Applied Science finished runners-up in the Anna University Zonal Tournament. S.Sripriya of IV BTech IT and P.Rupa of III Bsc Applied Science was selected to represent the Zonal combined team in Anna University Inter-Zonal tournaments held at G.U.Pope Engineering College, Tuticorn. They also won the fourth place in the TIES’08 tournament. The team also participated in the TCE Trophy and CICAA tournaments.

Our college men team lead by B.Dinesh Moorthy of IV BE Production participated in the Anna University Zonal, CICAA, Bishop Appasamy and TIES’08 Volleyball tournaments.

Weight Lifting and Best Physique:

Our college team lead by E.Vijay Ganesh of IV BE ECE participated in the Anna University one zone Competition held at Sri Subramanian college of Engineering and Technology in which our captain won gold medal in 85kg category. The team also participated in TIES’08 competition in which too our Captain won gold medal in the 77kg category. He also won gold medal in the District level Weight Lifting competition organised by three star weight lifting club, our team member P.Sibi of I B.Tech Textile won gold medal in the above 105 category, S.Krishna Kumar of III BE ECE and P.Varunan of III BE Production won silver medals in their respective categories. In Body Building competition participated by our team V.RajKumar of IV BE EEE won First place in Mr. Chennai 07’ competition and second place in the Chennai Metropoliton Amatuer Body Building Championship 07’. He also bagged Silver medal in the 80kg category of the TIES 08’ competition. Also P.Varunan of III BE Production Engineering P.Santhosh Kumar of II B.Tech Textile Technology & V.Vignesh Challappan of III BE Automobile Engineering won medals representing our college in various competitions.

2006-07

As in the previous years our college sportsman and women participated in various sports and games and won many laurels to our institution and also achieved many individual feats. Our college men and women won as many as six Anna University Zonal titles and were runners-up in three games; also our college won the Anna University Inter-Zone title in HandBall and many of our students were selected to represent Anna University in the Inter-University tournaments. The following is the brief report of the achievements of our teams and the individual honours won by our students during this academic year.

Basketball:

The men team led by S. Rajesh of IV BE Mechanical won the gold at the Anna University Zonal tournament and also bagged the Bronze at the Inter Zonal. It also secured second place in the state level tournament conducted by Pavendar Bharathidasan College of Arts & Science at Trichy. M.Arun Prakash and A.Suresh Kumar both of II BSc Applied Science represented Anna University in the South zone Inter University Basketball Tournament during this academic year. They also organized the First Inter engineering Basketball tournament in our college and won the winners trophy.

The women team led by P.Revathy of III B.Tech Bio tech was runners up in the Anna University zonal tournament. P.Abinaya and N. Revathy of II BE CSE represented the Anna University Coimbatore Zone combined team. P. Abinaya was selected to represent Anna University in the South zone Inter University Championship.

Cricket:

Our college cricket team led by L. Manesh Kumar of IV B.Tech Textile bagged the gold medal in the Anna University zonal tournament. S.R Praveen of IV BE ECE represented Anna University in South zone Inter University Championship held at Hyderabad. M.Jagadeesh of II BSc Applied science was selected to represent the Indian Netball Cricket team to participate in the International Netball Cricket Championship held at Cuttack.

Our college Cricket club completed the CDCA “A” Division league tournament this year.

Hockey:

The men team led by M. Prabhu of V BE SW Production Finished as Winners in the Anna University Zonal tournament organized by our college. The team also finished Runners up in the CIT Golden Jubilee Tournament & TIES 2007 tournament held at MNM Jain College of Engineering. During this academic year K.N. Guru Prasath of II BE Automobile Engineering represented the Coimbatore Under -19 and senior team. V.Appu of II BSc AFT represented the Coimbatore U-19 team.

Also as an important feature our present batch of Hockey players joining hands with the past players organized an Inter Engineering Hockey league for Major Dhyan Chand Memorial Trophy.

Tennis:

The men team led by R. Karthik Murali of IV BE SW Mech won the Anna University zonal tournament. They also won the CICAA tournament conducted at TamilNadu Agricultural University. They finished runners up in JETS -07, a state level tournament organized by St.Josephs College of Engineering. The women team lead by C.S. Subashini of IV BE SW Production finished 3 rd in the CICAA tournament held at TNAU.

Table Tennis:

The men team led by S.Haareesh of III BE SW EEE finished runners in the Anna University zonal tournament. S.Haareesh attained fourth place in the state level inter collegiate tournament held at PSG CAS. S.Haareesh and S.Kishore of III M.Sc SW were selected to represent the Coimbatore Zone combined team in the Anna University Interzonal Tournament. The women team lead by C.S. Subashini of IV BE SW Production finished 3 rd in the CICAA tournament held at TNAU.

Ball Badminton:

Our college men team led by P.K.Sathish kumar of III B.Sc CT won Anna University zonal tournament held at Tamilnadu College of Engg. The women team led by Mahalaksmi of II B.Tech Bio tech was the winners in the Anna University zonal tournament and the CIT golden jubilee tournament. They also bagged the 4 th place in JETS 07 and reached the quarter finals in the CICAA tournament. G. Anitha of II BE ECE has been selected to represent the Coimbatore district team in the state championship held at Tirupur.

Sepak Takraw:

K.Srikanth of II BE ECE participated in various national and international events. He represented the senior Indian team in the Asian games held at Doha, Qatar and the XXI Kings cup held at Bangkok. He is also selected to represent Tamilnadu state at the national games to be held in Assam. Our college team led by H.Ram kumar of IV BE CSE has organized the Takraw 3’s tournament for our college boys. They have also successfully organized the 2 nd Invitational Sepak Takraw tournament.

Weight Lifting and Best Physique:

In the Anna University Inter zonal Weight lifting Championship K.R.Sakthivel of IV B.Tech Textile and E.Vijay ganesh of III BE ECE won the gold medals in the 56 Kg and 77 Kg category respectively. V.Rajkumar of III BE EEE won the Bronze medal in the 85 Kg Category in the Anna University Inter Zonal Best Physique Championship.The team led by K.R.Sakthivel were placed fourth in the TIES 2007 tournament.

Athletics:

The men team led by S.M. Vijay Kumar of IV B.Tech IT bagged many medals in the Anna university zonal Athletic meet. R.Sathish kumar of III BE CSE has finished second in the Triple jump and Long jump events. Anantharaja of II BE Production finished third in the 100 mts event and the 4 X 100 Mts relay team comprising of S.M.Vijayakumar IV B.TECH IT, R.Sathish kumar III BE CSE, Anantharaja II BE Production, K.Karan II BE SW Production secured third position. And we are happy to announce that the Annual PSG Tech Mini Marathon race was be conducted on 4 th March 2007.

Our college women Athletic team led by G. Vedha Bhavani of III BE has bagged a handful of medals in the Anna University Zonal tournament. G. Vedha Bhavani secured the 1 st place in 5000 M, 2 nd place in triple jump, 3 rd place in 1500 M & 10000 M. S. Dhivya of I BE ECE secured the 3 rd place in 200 Mts dash. Mahalaksmi of II B.Tech Bio Tech secured 3 rd place in Hammer Throw. The 4*100 relay team comprising G. Vedha Bhavani, B. Mahalakshmi, S.Dhivya and P.Ramya of II BE Production finished third. G. Vedha Bhavani and J. Abhirami of II BE ECE secured 7 th and 10 th places respectively in the 5000 Mts.

Handball:

Our college men team led by P.Venkatesan of IV BE ECE won the Anna University title this year also. They also finished runners up in the CICAA and JETS 07 tournaments. They also organized the second Inter Engineering Handball tournament and won the runners-up trophy. M.Vijay Ramanathan of IV BE Metly, S.Kalaivanan of IV BE EEE and P.Venkatesan of IV BE ECE were selected to represent Anna University Hand ball team in the All India Inter University Championship.

Football:

The teams led by M.Mohindh of IV BE Civil were Winners in JETS 07 conducted by St. Josephs College of engineering. They also reached the semi finals of the CIT golden jubilee tournament. M.Deepak of III B.Sc CT represented the Coimbatore District Senior Football team and also represented the Anna University Coimbatore Zone Combined team.

Our team representing the PSG Sports Club played the Coimbatore District Football Association “A” Division league and attained a creditable third position. Our team has also organized the Annual Fives Football Tournament.

Volleyball:

Our college men team led by V. Vinod kumar of IV BE SW Mech secured the Bronze medal in the Anna University zonal tournament. They also reached the quarter finals of CICAA and JETS 07 tournaments. Veera Chenan of I BE ECE and S. Gopinath of I MSc SW represented the Anna University Coimbatore zone Combined team.

Our college women team led by SriPriya of III B.Tech IT reached the quarter finals of the Anna University Zonal Tournament. KrishnaPriya III B.Tech IT and Rupa of II B.Sc Applied Science represented the Coimbatore Zone Combined team in the Anna University Inter Zonal Tournament. The team also reached the Semifinals in the CICAA and JETS 07 tournaments.

Chess:

The men team led by A. Arun kumar of IV BE Mech won the Anna University zonal tournament and the CICAA tournament held at TNAU. They also finished 4 th in the Anna University Inter zonal tournament. The women team led by Ashwin of IV BE Mech also finished 4 th in JETS 07. The team lead by C.S. Subashini of IV BE SW Production finished 3 rd in the CICAA tournament held at TNAU & fourth place in the TIES 07 tournament held at MNM Jain College of Engineering.

Badminton:

The men team led by K. Madhu Maheswaran participated in the Anna University zonal and CICAA tournaments. The team led by R.Divya of II B.Tech Bio Tech finished Runners up in the Anna University zonal tournament. R. Divya also represented the Anna University Coimbatore zone combined team. The women team also reached the semifinals at the CICAA Tournament & Quarter finals in the TIES 07 tournament held at MNM Jain College of Engineering.

2005-06

As in the previous years our college sportsmen and women participated in various sports and games and won many laurels to our institution and also achieved many individual feats. Our college men and women won as many as six Anna University zonal titles and were runners-up in five games; also our college won the Anna University Inter-Zone title in Handball and many of our students were selected to represent Anna University in the Inter-University tournaments. Among the individual feats our final year ECE student Mr. S. Balaji was selected represent the senior Indian Sepaktakraw team for the fifth time in a row and as captain for the last two occasion. The following is the brief report of the achievements of our teams and the individual honours won by our students during this academic year.

Badminton

Our college women team lead by R.Jayanthi of III B.Sc Applied Science won the Anna University Zonal tournament and semifinalist in the Anna University Inter Zonal tournament. She won the 2nd place in the PSG Trophy State level singles Badminton Tournament. Our men team lead by R.Sathyan of IV BE ECE got Runners-up in the Anna University Zonal tournament in which R.Sathyan and S.Karthick of IV BE ECE were selected to represent Coimbatore Zone combined Badminton team in the Anna University Interzone Badminton tournament.

Table Tennis

Our college women team lead by D.Revathi of II B.Sc. CT was semi-finalist in the Anna University Zonal Tournament and our college men team lead by S.Hareesh of II BE SW EEE won the Anna University Zonal title and were Quarter finalist in the Anna University Inter Zonal Tournament and also participated in the PSG Trophy State Level Table Tennis Tournament.

Chess

Our college women team lead by C.S.Subhasini of III BE SW EEE won fourth place in the Anna University Zonal and in the XI State Level Junior Chess Tournament she was placed sixth, and her team mates M.Kasturi of II BE ECE placed second, L.Malathy of II M.Sc. SW placed third and N. Saranya Nandini of II B.Tech Bio-Tech placed third. Under her leadership our team secured third place in the TamilNadu Inter Engineering Sports (TIES 2006) held at Arulmighu Kalasalingam College of Engineering.

Our college men team lead by S.Karthick of IV BE EEE won the Anna University Zonal title and Runners-up in the Anna University Inter Zonal tournament. R.Antony of I ME was selected to represent Anna University Chess Team in the South Zone Inter University Tournament. S.Deepak of III B.Tech IT got 2nd place in the XI State Level Junior Chess Tournament.

Tennis

Our college men team lead by C.Swaminathan of III MCA was Runners-up in the Anna University Zonal Tournament and our college women team lead by S.Kamaladevi of III BE CSE secured third place in the TamilNadu Inter Engineering Sports (TIES 2006) held at Arulmighu Kalasalingam College of Engineering.

Hockey

Our college men hockey team lead by C.Ganapathy of IV BE Metallurgy was runners-up in the Amity Hockey Tournament, secured 4th place Anna University Zonal Tournament and qualified to play the super league stage in the District Hockey League Championship; C.Ganapathy of IV BE Metallurgy and A.Aravind of IV BE CSE represented Coimbatore Zone Combined Hockey Team in the Anna University Interzonal Tournament.

Basketball

Our college women team lead by R.Archana of III B.Sc. CT won the Anna University Zonal Tournament and our men team lead by E.Mahendran of IV BE Automobile Engineering won bronze medal in the Anna University Zonal tournament and won 4th place in the Bishop Appasamy Memorial Basketball Tournament and alsoparticipated in the PSG Trophy State level Basketball Tournament.

Weightlifting and Best Physique

Our college men team lead by S. Rafiq Ahmed of IV BE Automobile won the third place by the way of winning four medals in the Weight lifting competition in the Tamil Nadu Inter Engineering Sports (TIES 2006) held at Arulmighu Kalasalingam College of Engineering. The medal winners in the Weight Lifting event were 1. S. Rafiq Ahmed of IV BE Automobile secured 1st place in the 77 kg category ; E. Vijay Ganesh of II BE ECE secured 2nd place in the 77kg category ; T.Radhakrishnan of III B.Tech Textile won 3rd place in the 62kg category & K.R. Sakthivel of III B.Tech Textile won 3rd place in the 56kg category. In the Anna University one zone Weightlifting competition T.Radhakrishnan of III B.Tech Textile won 2nd place in the 56kg category; K.R. Sakthivel of III B.Tech Textile won 3rd place in the 56kg category and E. Vijay Ganesh of II BE ECE won 3rd place in the 69kg category.

In the Best Physique, V. Rajkumar of II BE EEE has excelled by winning a runner-up in the junior section of the Mr. Coimbatore Best Physique competition and he also attained fifth in the senior section. He also performed well to score a silver medal in TIES 2006.

Ball Badminton

Our college women team lead by M.Renugadevi of II M.Sc CT were Runners-up in the Anna University zonal tournament in which Mahalakshmi of I B.Tech Bio-Tech was selected to represent Coimbatore Zone combined Team in the Anna University Inter Zonal tournament. Our college men team lead by P.Vinoth Kumar of IV BE Metallurgy were winners in the Anna University Zonal tournament and reached quarter final stage in the Anna University Inter Zonal tournament and participated in the PSG Trophy State Level Ball Badminton Tournament.

Volley Ball

Our college women team lead by S.Kanimozhi of III B.Sc App.Sci. were Runners-up in the Anna University Zonal tournament in which P.Ruba and R.Naneetha of I B.Sc Applied Science were selected to represent the Coimbatore Zone Combined team in the Anna University Inter-Zone Tournament. Our college men team led by M.Karthick of IV B.Tech IT secured third place in the Anna University Zonal Tournament.

Football

Our college men team lead by K. Suresh of III BSc Apparel & Fashion Technology participated in the Anna University Zonal and PSG Trophy State Level Inter-Collegiate Football Tournaments and also participated in the State Level Inter Collegiate five-a-side Football tournament M.Anantharaj of I BE production selected to represent Coimbatore District Football Team in the TamilNadu Inter-District Youth Football Tournament. Under his leadership our PSG Sports Football Team retained the Coimbatore District Football Association ‘A’ division status comfortably.

Handball

Our college men team lead by S.Manoj Kumar of II MCA won the Anna university Inter-zone Handball Tournament. J. ArunXavierRaj of III B.E Mech, U.Jagaveera ramkumar and M.Vijay Ramanathan of III B.E. Metallurgy and P.Venkatesh of III BE ECE were selected to represent Anna University Handball Team in the Inter-University Tournament.

Boxing

R.Colin Kameshkumar of II BE ECE won gold medal in the Welder Weight Category and also he was selected to represent Anna University Boxing Team in the Inter-University Competition.

Swimming

G.Janane of III BE ECE won the Second place in the 200mts Individual Medly event, 200 mts Back stroke and 200 mts Break Stroke, 3rd place in the 800 mts free style, 100 m Back stroke, 100 mts Breast stroke, 200 mts free style and 100 mts free style in the Anna University Inter-Zonal Swimming competition and also she was selected to represent Anna University Swimming Team in the Inter University competition.

Sepaktakraw

Our college team lead by S. Balaji of IV BE ECE won Gold Medal in the Invitational Sepaktakraw Tournament conducted by TamilNadu Olympic Association at Ambattur Indoor Stadium, Chennai. He was selected to represent Senior Indian Sepaktakraw team for the fifth time in a row to play the 20th Kings Cup World Sepaktakraw Championship held at Bangkok, Thailand. We are very happy to congratulate him for having captained our senior Indian team for a second time in a row.

Cricket

Our college Cricket Team lead by B.Phalgun of IV BE ECE were winners of Anna University Zonal Tournament B.Phalgun of IV BE ECE, L.Manesh Kumar of III B.Tech Textile and S.R.Praveen of III BE ECE were selected to represent Anna University Cricket Team in the South Zone Inter University Championship. N.Harikrishna of II B.Tech IT and M.S.Arun Kumar of II BE SW EEE were selected to represent Under-19 Coimbatore District Cricket Team. Under his leader ship our team with their hardwork played the Coimbatore District Cricket Association “A” Division league matches throughout the year.

Athletics

Our college women team lead by S.Praveenambigai of IV BE Metallurgy performed number of medal winning feats. P.Mausumitha of IV BE Production won the individual Championship in Anna University Zonal Athletic meet. G.Vedha Bhavani of II BE Civil won the gold medal in the 5,000 mts and 800 mts, silver medal in the 1500 mts of the Anna University Zonal meet and 4th place in the 5000 mts of the Anna University Inter Zonal Athletic meet. In the Anna University zonal meet A.T.Ramya of IV M.Sc. Soft Ware Engg. won the bronze medal in the 100 mts Hurdles. Above 4 athletes won silver medal in the 4 x 100 mts relay and 4 x 400 mts relay in the Anna University Zonal Athletic meet.

Also our college men team under the leadership of B.Niresh of II M.Tech Textile won many medals in the meets they have participated. He himself lead the way by winning silver medal in the High Jump, K.N. Shiv Subramaniam of III BE CSE won gold medal in the Discus throw and Hammer throw in Anna University Zonal Athletic meet and the later won silver medal in the Discuss throw of the Anna University Inter Zonal Athletic meet. R.Sathish Kumar of II BE CSE won silver medal in the Long Jump and bronze medal in the 100 mts and M.Allvin of III B.Tech IT won silver medal in the 800 mts. A.Moharaj of III B.E. Automobile won bronze medal in the 1500mts of the Anna University Zonal Athletic meet and also A. Mohanraj won the 2nd place in the Navy Run ’05.

Yogasana

B.Selvakadambari of I.B.Sc AFT participated in the Anna University Inter Zone Yogasana Competition and she was selected to represent Anna University Yogasana team in the Inter University and she also won gold medal in 17 years to 25 years competition conducted by TamilNadu Yogasana Association, Dindigul.

Apart from participating in various tournaments and sports our college sports persons exhibited their leadership and managerial skills by the way of successfully organizing yet another edition of All India Basketball Tournament for open clubs and State Level Basketball tournament for School boys. We have also successfully organized the MiniMarathon race for our college and polytechnic students. This year we have also organized the Anna University Inter-Collegiate Coimbatore zonal Cricket tournament.

As the sports secretary of this great institution it gives me immense pleasure in presenting this report and I take this opportunity to thank the administrators for having given me this opportunity. Thank you one and all.

2004-05

As usual our college men and women sportspersons participated and excelled in various tournaments and sports. Our sports fraternity lead by P. Rajkumar of IV BE ECE, the sports secretary and Rohini Sangeetha of IV BE CSE, the joint secretary for sports progressed in various sports and games. The following are the participation performance and achievement of our teams and individual honours won by our sportspersons.

WOMEN

BallBatminton:

Our college women Ball Badminton team led by R. Jananie of III BSc AFT won the Anna University Coimbatore Zonal tournament and came runners-up in the Anna University Inter-zonal tournament. She was also selected to represent Anna University in the Inter university championship and also to represent the Coimbatore District in the senior Inter-District competitions.

Basketball:

The basketball team won the Anna University Coimbatore Zonal tournament and reached the semi final of the Inter-Zonal competition. S. Lekha of II BE CSE was selected to represent Anna University in the Inter-University championship.

Volleyball:

The team led by G.DeepaNandhaVadhana of III B Tech BioTech won the Anna University Zonal tournament and qualified to play the Inter-zonal tournament.

Table Tennis:

The team led by V. Ramya of V BE SW EEE participated in the Anna University zonal tournament .In the PSG Trophy state level tournament our college came runners-up in the singles event.

Badminton:

The team led by Anjani Amarnath of III BE ECE secured III Place in the Anna University zonal tournament. R. Jayanthi of II BSc App. Science was selected to represent the Coimbatore zone combined team in the Inter-zone tournament. Our team secured a creditable third place in the TIES – 2005 tournament.

Chess:

The team led by V.Sathya of V BE EEE SW secured the third place in the Anna university Zonal competition and Fifth place in the TIES – 2005 tournament.

Tennis:

The team led by Jaswini Vijayakumar of II BTech IT secured third place in the Anna University Inter-Zonal tournament. S.Kamaladevi of II BE CSE was also selected to represent Anna University in the inter university championship. Our team showed excellent sporting skills and achieved gold in the TIES – 2005 tournament.

Athletics:

The team led by P. Mausmitha of III BE Production gave an impressive performance in the Anna University zonal meet. P. Mausmitha of III BE Production, M. Vidulasrri of IV BE ECE and Kalaivani of II BE Civil won many medals and M. Vidulasrri bagged the individual championship award. All the above-mentioned athletes were selected to represent Coimbatore zone in the inter-zonal athletic meet. Our team secured third place in the TIES – 2005 meet.

Swimming:

G.Janani of II BE ECE participated in the Anna University Inter-zonal swimming competition and won three gold, four silver and three bronze medals.

MEN

BallBadminton:

Our college men Ball Badminton team led by M Sundarapandian of IV B Tech Textile secured third place in the Anna University Coimbatore Zonal tournament. M. Vinoth of III B Tech Textile was selected to represent Coimbatore zone in the inter zone tournament. They also participated in the other local tournaments.

Basketball:

The team led by D. Balasabari of II ME Production came runners-up in the Anna University Coimbatore Zonal tournament. Our team also won the third place in the Bishop Appasamy Memorial Basketball tournament and also participated in the other local tournaments. M. Naresh of III BSc CT, V.K.Gnanavel of III BE Production, P. Sathish of IV BE ECE and D. Balasabari of II ME Production were selected to represent Coimbatore zone combined team in the inter zone competition.

Volleyball:

The team led by K.Pavan of IV BE CSE secured third place in the Anna University Coimbatore zonal tournament, won creditable remarks in the TIES – 2005 tournament and reached semifinals of the KCT tournament.

Table Tennis:

The team led by S.Venkataragavan reached the quarterfinal stage in the Anna University zonal and TIES – 2005 tournaments. They also reached semifinals of the KCT tournament. Along with the captain R.Prabhu of V BE SW Mech represented Bharathiyar University.

Badminton:

The team led by R.Sathyan III BE ECE came runners-up in the Anna university zonal tournament and reached quarterfinals in the TIES – 2005 and PSG Trophy tournaments. R. Sathyan III BE ECE and T.Pranay III MSc SoftWare Engg. were selected to represent Coimbatore zone in the Anna University inter-zone competition.

Chess:

The team led by S. Karthik of III BE EEE won the Anna University zonal and inter zonal titles and were placed fifth in the TIES – 2005 competition.

Tennis:

The team led by C.Swaminathan of II MCA won the Anna University Zonal tournament and the south zone sports fest organized by Vellore Institute of Technology and also came runners up in the TIES – 2005 tournament.

Athletics:

The team led by B.Niresh of I M Tech Textile won many medals in the Anna university Coimbatore zonal athletic meet.R. Sathish Kumar of I BE CSE, M. Allwin of I B Tech IT, A. Mohanraj of II BE Automobile and K. N. Sivasubramaniam of II BE CSE won many places and all of them were selected to represent Coimbatore zone combined team in the inter zonal meet. Our team secured fourth place in the TIES – 2005 meet.

Cricket:

The team lead by P. Rajkumar of IV BE ECE attained fourth place in the Anna university zonal tournament and comfortably retained the CDCA “B” division league status and were promoted to “A” Division with an excellent teamwork. The trio who played vital role in our team’s success with their all round performance were L. Manaesh kumar of II BTech Textile who scored 397 runs and clinched 15 wickets, J. Manjunath Pai of IV BE Mechanical who scored 273 runs and picked 7 wickets and B. Phalgun of III BE ECE who scored 200 runs and bagged 15 wickets.

Football:

The team led by P. Rajkumar of III MSC SoftWare Engineering retained the CDFA “A” Division league status comfortably. Our team secured second and fourth place in the VIT and BSA Cresent tournaments and reached quarterfinals in Anna University zonal tournament. R. Praveen Chander of I BSc CT selected to represent Coimbatore zone in the inter zone competition.

Handball:

The team led by D. Manivannan of IV BE Production reached the quarterfinal stage of the Bhagawan Mahaveer Jain south zone tournament and also participated in the Anna University inter zone tournament. D. Manivannan was also selected to represent Anna University in the inter university championship.

Hockey:

The team led by M. Prabhu of III BE SW Production secured third place in the Anna University Zonal tournament. Along with the captain R. Aravindan of III BE Production and R. Prince Packianathan of I ME Production were selected to represent Coimbatore zone combined team in the inter zone tournament. The team reached semifinal of the KCT tournament, Quarterfinal of the
TIES – 2005 tournament and also played other local tournaments.

Weight Lifting & Best Physique:

The team lead by R. Nandhakumar of IV B Tech Textile with his team of men had put in a great effort and teamwork to achieve many laurels to their team. Their team members S. Rafiq Ahmed of III BE Automobile, M. NavaneethaKrishnan of IV B Tech Textile, M. Madhan raj of IV BE ECE, M. Swaminathan of MSc Material Science and the captain himself won good number of medals to secure fifth place in the overall ranking of the weight lifting event in Anna University Zonal Competitions. All the above mentioned medal winners were selected to represent the Coimbatore zone in the inter zone competition and in which S. Rafiq Ahmed, R. Nandhakumar and M. Madhanraj won gold, silver and bronze medals respectively in their respective category.

With all the hard work done by our boys paid them back in the TIES – 2005 competition. Our team competed with Great Spirit and won the third place in the TIES – 2005 Weight lifting competition.

Sepaktakraw:

The team lead by J. Prabhu of III BE ECE has been organizing coaching camps, intramurals and inter-department competitions for the first year students as well as to all those who volunteer themselves throughout the year. By their sheer dedication to this game the team produced several state colours from our college. S. Balaji of III BE ECE represented TamilNadu senior team in the Senior National Championship.

These are the participation, performance and individual honours attained by our college sports men and women. We also honour the top ranked sports persons of our college who attained district, state, national and university colours every year by the way of presenting them the star sports person award in our college annual sports day. This year about 26 men and women sports persons are to be awarded with the star sports person award in this function.

We have also revived The PSG Mini Marathon after more than two decades, department of physical education and students union on 25th December 2004 jointly conducted it. About 550 students from our college and polytechnic participated in this mini marathon. The marathon covered a distance of about 8 kms for boys and 4 kms for girls.

Apart from participating in various tournaments and sports our college sports persons exhibited tremendous leadership qualities and organizing skills by successfully conducting the 40th All India Basketball tournament for open clubs and 30th State Level Basketball tournament for Schoolboys for PSG Trophy. In this tournament leading teams from all over India participated. Also our intramural committee lead by student leaders conducted various games and sports in which our students actively participated. Also Physical Education Classes for first year students are being conducted. Various team selection trials among the first years were conducted to spot the budding talents.

2003-04

As in the previous years, large numbers of students have been selected to represent the University, State and District in several Games and sports. The players and athletes of our college maintained consistently good record of performance in almost all Games and Sports, at all levels. The following were some of the prominent achievements and honours attained by our students.

1. Athletics

Our Women team lead by Ms. M. Vidula Srri of III BE ECE won the overall title in the Anna University Zonal as well TIES Athletic meets. Ms. P.Mausumitha of II B.E. Production Engg. won the individual championship in TIES and Anna University Zonal Athletic Meets. Ms. M. Vidula Srri of III B.E. ECE won the gold medal for High Jump in TIES and Anna University Inter Collegiate Zonal Athletic meets. In the CICAA meet our women athletes came first in 100mts, high jump and were placed second in long jump, 200 mts and 400 mts. Apart from individual performances our women relay team won the 4 x 100 mts gold and 4 x 400 mts silver medals in the TIES athletic meet and both the gold at Anna University zonal meet. Under the leadership of Mr. V. Srivatsan of IV BE CSE, K.N. Sivasubramanian of I BE CSE won bronze and silver medal for Hammer throw in the CICAA and Anna University zonal meets respectively and A. Mohanraj of I BE Automobile won silver medal for 5000 meters at the Anna University zonal meet. K.N. Sivasubramanian and P. Mausumita represented Coimbatore District Junior Athletic team in the Inter-District meet.

2. Badminton

Our Men and Women teams lead by Mr. Boopesh Ramalingam of V BE SW EEE and Ms. N. Shanmuga Priya of IV BE CSE respectively got third place in the Anna University Zonal Tournament and also our men team got third place in the CICAA Tournament.

3. Ball Badminton

Our women team lead by Ms. B. Ramya of IV BE ECE got the runners up shield in the TIES [Tamil Nadu Inter Engineering Sports]. Ms.R.Jananie of II B.Sc. AFT represented Coimbatore Senior District and she is also selected to represent TamilNadu Senior State in the senior nationals. Captains of our men and women teams Mr.K.Krishna Prasad of Final B.E. Automobile and Ms.K.S.Meenadevi of III B.E. IT represented the Palakkad and Coimbatore Senior District categories respectively.

4. Basket Ball

Our women team lead by R. Sindhuja of IV BE EEE was winners and our men team lead by S.L.Shibu of IV BE Metallurgy were the runners up in the Anna University Zonal Tournament. Mr. M.Naresh of II B.Sc CT represented Anna University in South Zone Inter University Tournament.

5. Chess

Our men team lead by K. Karthik of IV BE EEE was runners up in Anna University Zonal and TIES Tournaments. Our women team lead by S. Bhuvaneshwari of IV BE CSE was runners up in CICAA Chess Competition and secured third place in TIES. Mr. S.Karthick of II B.E EEE represented Anna University in South Zone Inter University Tournament.

6. Cricket

Our PSG TECH Cricket Club lead by Mr. P. Aswanth of III MSc SW Engg. retained the Coimbatore District Cricket Association “B” Division league status by winning six matches out of nine matches and attained Fourth position with the sterling all round performance of Mr. L.Maneshkumar of III DTT who scored 140 runs and took 23 wickets, Mr. B.Phalgun of II BE ECE who scored 177 runs and took 20 wickets and promising knocks from Mr. M. Sundarganesh of II BE SW Mech and Mr. G. Sriram of II BE CSE who scored 197 and 131 respectively. B.Phalgun of II BE ECE lead the Anna University Coimbatore Zone Cricket team to a creditable third place in the Inter-Zonal Tournament.

7. Football

Our men team lead by Mr. NokDenPongJamir of IV BE ECE was runners up in the Anna University Zonal Tournament and got third place in TIES. Mr.M.Mohindh of I B.E Civil Engg, Mr. R.Varun Prabhu of I B.E Automobile Engg and Mr.K.Suresh of I B.Sc AFT represented Junior District category.

8. Hockey

Our men team lead by Mr. B. Balu of IV BE Metallurgy was semi finalist in the Coimbatore Inter Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament.

9. Hand Ball

Our men team lead by N. Vetrivel of IV BE CSE was runners up in the Bharathiar University Inter Collegiate Tournament. Mr.N.Vetrivel and our former captain Mr.M.K.Karthikeyan of IV B.E. CSE were selected to represent Bharathiar University in the South Zone Inter University Tournament and along with them Mr. D.Manivannan of III BE Prod, Mr. R. JaiKrishna and Mr. S. ManojKumar of III BSc IT and Mr. J. Vivek of III BSc CT represented Coimbatore District in the Senior Inter-District Tournament.

10. Sepak Takraw

Our men team lead by S. Balaji of II BE ECE (represented India four times; lead the Indian team for the World Championship this year) won the State Level Open Club Championship conducted by TamilNadu Sepaktakraw Association. Mr.S.Balaji and Mr.J.Bragadeesh of II B.E ECE were selected to represent Tamil Nadu in the South Zone Senior National Championship and later along with them Mr.J.Prabhu (R.No:40), Mr.N.Jayaprabhu, Mr.J.Prabhu (R.No:41) of II B.E. ECE and Mr.K.Sudharshana Krishnan of I B.E. Mech were also represented TamilNadu in senior National Championship.

11. Tennis

Our men team lead by Mr. S. Srirag of III MSc SW Engg was the winners in the Anna University Zonal and CICAA Tournaments (Coimbatore Inter Collegiate Athletic Association). Our women lead by Ms. S. KamalaDevi of I BE CSE was the winner in the CICAA and Anna University Inter-Collegiate tournaments. She represented Anna University in the South Zone Inter-University Tournament.

12. Table Tennis

Our Women team lead by Ms. B. Anitha of IV B. Tech (Textile) were runners up in the Bharathiar University Inter Collegiate and CICAA tournaments. She represented Bharathiar University in the South-Zone Inter University Tournament.

13. Volley Ball

Our men team lead by R. Karthik of IV BE CSE got third place in the Anna University Zonal Tournament and our women team lead by K. Sivamala of IV BSc App.Science got the third place in the TIES. Ms.G.Deepannandha Vadhana of II B.Tech Bio Tech represented Anna University in South Zone Inter University Tournament.

14. Weight lifting and Best Physique

Mr. S.Mohanraj of IV B.E. Mech.Engg, Captain of the team won the TIES Weight Lifting Gold Medal in the below 69Kg category for the second year in a row. Mr. S. Raffiq Ahmed of II B.E. Automobile Engg won the TIES Weight Lifting Bronze Medal in the 77Kg category. He also lead his team to creditable fourth place in the TIES competition.

Also about 20 students from various teams of our college were selected to represent Coimbatore Zone in the Anna University Inter-Collegiate Inter-Zonal Tournaments and Sports.

Our college also participated in various local tournaments conducted by the District Associations, Institutions and Private sectors.

In recognizing the individual feats attained by our sports persons in various disciplines they were honoured with the Star Sports Person Award during our college Annual Sports day.

Apart from participating in various tournaments and sports our college sports persons exhibited tremendous leadership qualities and organizing skills by successfully conducting the 39 th All India Basketball tournament for open clubs and 29 th State Level Basketball tournament for School boys for PSG Trophy. In this tournament leading teams from all over India participated. Also our intramural committee comprised by students and staff conducted various games and sports in which our students and staff actively participated. Also Physical Education Classes for first year students are being conducted. Various team selection trials among the first years were conducted to spot the budding talents and Inter-Departmental tournaments exclusively for the first years were planned to provide a platform to develop their leadership qualities and they were helped to organize the games on their own.
