The AIMTDR conference focuses on the broad field of manufacturing. The first conference entitled 'All India Machine Tool Design and Research Conference' was initiated and organized by Jadavpur University, Kolkata in the year 1967 under the leadership of Late Professor Amitabha Bhattacharyya. Subsequently, it has been renamed as 'All India Manufacturing Technology, Design and Research Conference'. In view of its global acceptance as a reputed conference, this became an international event from 2006 and one of the most prestigious conferences in manufacturing.
The conference has been organized by various prestigious institutions such as Jadavpur University (three times), IITs, viz., IITB, IITD, IITG, IITK, IITKh, IITM and IIT-Roorkee, Central Manufacturing Technology Institute, Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute, NIT Warangal, PSG Tech (two times), BIT Mesra, COEP Pune, VIT and Andhra University. The last conference was organized by Anna University, Chennai during 13 - 15, December 2018. The conference continues to be a platform for intensive networking and fruitful interaction, wherein, technocrats, academicians, researchers, practicing engineers, entrepreneurs, corporate executives, industrialists, startup professionals and budding engineers exchange their ideas and share their experiences.
The 8th International and 29th National conference is being jointly organized in virtual mode   during 9 - 11, December 2021 by the Departments of Mechanical Engineering of PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore and PSG Institute of Technology and Applied Research, Coimbatore. The theme for AIMTDR 2021 is “Transformational Changes in Manufacturing” .

PSG iTech, started in the year 2014, is an AICTE approved institution and affiliated to Anna University, Chennai. The institution caters to various engineering disciplines, focusing on learning, industry engagement of students, innovative and inclusive pedagogy, and ethics. Within a short span of time, the Institution has emerged to be one of the most preferred institutions for the engineering aspirants in Tamilnadu. This institution is equipped with various Centres of Excellence such as Innovation Centre, NI Graphical System Design Centre, Keysight RF Circuit & System Design Laboratory, Festo Laboratory, Nexmoo Mobile & IoT Centre of Excellence, CISCO Network Academy and eYantra.
