The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering came into existence in the year 1968.The department offers B.E Programme in Electronics and Communication Engineering and PG Programmes include M.E Communication Systems, M.E VLSI Design, M.E Wireless Communications and M.Tech Nanoscience and Technology offering high class technical and innovative experience to the students. The department offers doctoral and M.S by research Programmes in both part time and full time mode. The department has produced around 103 Ph.Ds. The AICTE-CII Award for the Best-Industry linked Institute for the Electronics & Communication Engineering subject stream for the year 2013 strengthened the department’s industry-institute relations. BE ECE program has been accredited for 6 years by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) up to 2024 . ME VLSI Design Course was accredited for 5 years with effect from September 2016.ME Communication Systems course was accredited for 5 years with effect from April 2017.

The INTEL sponsored “Center of Excellence in VLSI System Design (CEVSD)” in our institution is established to accelerate VLSI design and Technology with Hardware development boards, software and System on Programmable Chip Development Tools Suite, embedded processors, and a wide range of standard and research oriented Intel-FPGA intellectual property (IP). Configurable embedded processor present in FPGA allows creating easily a microprocessor-based system that is customized to match the application requirements. The System on Programmable Chip by system generation tool automates IP configuration and integration. Also More IP cores offered can use off-the-shelf modules to create a hardware system in just minutes using SOPC Builder. A Memorandum of Understanding, (MoU) was signed between the Peelamedu Samanaidu Govindasamy College of Technology, Coimbatore (PSG CT) and Indian Navy on 29 October 2018, at naval base Kochi aimed at synergising the intellectual and material resources towards meeting specific goals and problem solving efforts. The event was presided by Rear Admiral K Swaminathan, VSM Chief Staff Officer (CSO) Training, Southern Naval Command.
A twelve member delegation from PSG College headed by Principal and Indian Naval Officers from various units attended the function. The MoU was signed by Commmodore Yogesh Chandra Pandey, Director Naval Institute of Aeronautical Training, (NIAT) on behalf of the Indian Navy and by Dr R Rudramurthy, Principal PSG CT. This MoU will benefit both the sides substantially in providing expertise in academics, development of training infrastructure, joint R&D projects and transfer of technology on mutual interest areas, faculty assistance in product/ process modification and modernisation. Allocation of four seats to Indian Navy personnel for pursuing post-graduation and unlimited seats for research are the other key highlights of the MoU.
The chief guest in his address said that “it was indeed a red letter day and an event of paramount importance for the Southern Naval Command". He appreciated the fact that the MoU was arrived at after much thought, deliberations and joint evaluation of proficiencies by both organisations in finalising an elaborate and exhaustive document which will be a road map towards mutual collaboration between the two organisations. He added that mutual cooperation in academics, training, projects and research in addition to faculty and resource sharing will go a long way in enhancing the technological edge of the Indian Navy.

Bosch DNA Electronics challenge was conducted by Robert Bosch in association with the Maker Village, Cochin. Bosch provided problem statements from their focus industry verticals. The challenges broadly fell into the categories of Smart City, IOT, Wearables, Robotics and embedded electronic products. The challenge was opened to students across India in December 2016. The students were supposed to solve any one or more of the problem statements based on which they were selected to do the prototyping of their proposed solution in a span of 6 months starting from June 2017. Rahul.R, Sruti.S and Sowmyasree.M of Final Year ECE G2 had participated in the challenge in the name of Team Blizzards. Their proposed solution for Smart Bin for smart waste sensing was selected and they were one among the seven finalists short-listed from more than 700 entries. They were funded by Bosch to do the prototyping. In the finals held on December 2017, they won the FIRST PLACE and were awarded with a cash prize of one lakh rupees in a National level hardware startup conclave, HARDTECH KOCHI on 10th March 2018.

It was a south Indian level contest. 150 students from almost five states came to the competition. The competition was held in two rounds. In the first round, they filtered out eight students from 150 students. In the second round, eight finalists presented their ideas before the juries.
My idea was "IoT based Smart Walking Cane for Typhlotic with Voice Assistance". It was about making a Walking Stick for visually challenged people.
