The department of Robotics and Automation Engineering was established with an undergraduate programme in "Robotics and Automation" and was formally inaugurated on Monday, 25th July 2011 by Mr. Sriny Sundararajan- Head, OEM Business, Precise Automation, California, USA in the presence of Mr. C. R. Swaminathan, Chief Executive, PSG Institutions, Dr. R. Rudramoorthy, Principal, PSG Tech, Dr. P. Radhakrishnan, Director, PSG Institute of Advanced Studies and Dr. B. Vinod,HoD-In Charge of the Department.
The department of Robotics and Automation Engineering was established to meet the growing demand for trained engineers in the field of Industrial Automation. Automation Engineering is a cross-sectional discipline that requires sound, proportional knowledge in hardware as well as software development and their applications. This unique programme is tailored to prepare quality Automation Engineers for various application segments like manufacturing, defence, food, aerospace, medicine and other services.

Department of Robotics and Automation Engineering, PSG College of Technology has been sanctioned a joint research project with Korea Advanced Institute of Science & Technology (KAIST) on, “Design and Development of a Robotic Endotrainer”.
This project has been sanctioned under the Global Innovation & Technology Alliance (GITA) research programmes for joint R&D programmes with foreign countries. This project will be jointly carried out by PSG College of Technology, PSG Institute of Medical Sciences & Research and L & T Technology Solutions. The total funding value is Rupees Two Crore Five Lakhs and Thirteen Thousand for the Indian side and the duration of the project is two years.
A memorandum of understanding has been signed in this regard with all Indian partners, GITA and the Department of Science and Technology (DST) on 30th November 2015 at New Delhi. Dr. B. Shyadri College of Engineering, Mangalore conducted an aeromodelling event named Aerophilia on January 27-28, 2018. In this event Mr. Sanjay Raj and Mr. Enba Anandhan, third year RAE, PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore secured first prize in Game of Drones and a consolation prize in Aerophilia Competition.
In Game of Drones they have to build a drone that can carry a payload and manoeuvre through the obstacle course without any contact on the obstacles. And in Aerophiia thay have to build a plane that can perform aerobatics and carry a payload and do the same and land perfectly in the provided runway.
